18 January 2012

No, I'm not writing with directions on what to do with another snow day -- you have to figure that our for yourself. But if you have any other concerns, or if you have something you'd like listed in the Blast, just send it along by Friday afternoon, so I can get it in the next edition. We should be thawed out by then.

Comments, questions, etc? Just ask...

And More...

Brrrr -- Winter Ball
The weather got a little too cold for the Center School's Winter Ball, originally scheduled for this coming Saturday at the Vera Project -- the dance has been postponed, likely to Friday 27 January, which gives students another week to make their plans and buy tickets. The event is a fundraiser for the junior class, so you can enjoy yourself and do a good deed, all at the same time. Tickets are available at the front desk (once things thaw out enough for school to open back up...) If you've got questions, or can donate tasty treats for the event, contact Eva Cosgrove at evacosgrove@hotmail.com

We Need a Real Refrigerator
The long-suffering fridge in the Center School commons has finally wheezed its last, and we are looking for a replacement. (please, hold the suggestions that we just keep the milk outside during this current cold snap) If you have a fridge just taking up space in your basement or garage, let us know -- we can give it a new home, and you can bask in the virtue of a good deed. Contact Eva Cosgrove if you have any chilly leads at evacosgrove@hotmail.com.

Needed: A New Volunteer Wrangler
The CSCA is looking for a new Volunteer Coordinator. The job is the equivalent of a matchmaker -- you put people who are interested in working for the school together with tasks that need doing. We already have a roster of willing volunteers, so half the task is done. If you've got a little time to spare for the Center School, contact CSCA president Sam Star at samstar500@yahoo.com.

Classroom of the Future
We all know what classrooms look like today, but what will they look like in 50 years? As part of its celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Seattle World's Fair, The Next Fifty project is sponsoring an exhibit for futurists, featuring predictions of what classrooms might look like in 2061, designed by students using schools today. Proposals will be evaluated by professionals in education, technology, architecture and design, who will identify the common themes in the submissions and curate the exhibit. For more information about the project, and to submit a preliminary Intent Form, check their website.

Do you have an idea for a BLAST article?
We want to know what you know, and we want to know what you need. Send us your specific content, or your ideas for content. If you have Blast content to get out this week - please submit it by Friday at 3 pm. The Blast goes out late Sunday night, and covers school life for the following week.

Things we like to know:
- School News, in and out of the building
- Opportunities for Center School students (volunteering, classes, performances, etc)
- Student, staff and faculty accomplishments beyond the school.
- And the ever-favorite "misc."

By now you've seen the motley collection of stuff that qualifies for the Blast -- if you've got something that fits that very elastic category, send it in. Make sure you tell me what's going on, where and when it's happening, and how to get in touch with the people involved, if participation is the goal. And let me know how long you think it should run.

To submit news, events, or calendar items to be included in the Blast, send an email with subject line "News" to submitarticle@csca.thecenterschool.net.
