15 February 2012
A long mid-week Blast, so no snappy patter here. Just a reminder that next week is midwinter break -- a chance to breathe and catch up on things. No Blast on Monday 2/20, but I'll be back next Wednesday.

Tweaking the Schedule
Homework Club, which used to meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, moved to Mondays and Fridays at the beginning of the semester, and is now splitting the difference -- meeting on Mondays and Thursdays.
Seniors - Deadlines Approaching
Seniors need to have completed their PE and service learning hours by 2 April, so use the midwinter break to make sure you've got what you need, and then write it all up.
Student Enrichment Fee
from the CSCA board
Over the last couple of weeks, a number of Center School parents have called other parents reminding them about the Student Enrichment Fee. The suggested voluntary contribution is $150 per student. This is money that the Center School Community Association, the school's PTA, raises to supplement the School District budget. We distribute the money amongst all of the teachers, and to all of the classes. We purchase supplies that benefit all of the students. We realize that not every family can afford the full $150 contribution. The students will benefit from whatever amount you can contribute before the end of the school year. Please make your check payable to Center School Communication Association, and make a note that this is for your student's enrichment fee. The check can be dropped off at the front desk at the school. If you have any questions and/or comments about the fee, please contact Sam Star, Center School Community Association president at 206-789-3483, or samstar500@yahoo.com

Artists as Collectors
The Wright family has been running a low-key exhibit space, mostly to show work from their own, extensive collection, but their new show opens up the idea of collecting to art makers themselves, asking a group of artists to curate collections of their own. The results are supposed to run the gamut, from found materials and art objects to consumer products. The space is only open a few hours a week, Thursdays and Saturdays 10 am - 2 pm, but the show is free, so midwinter break is a great time to stop in and look. 407 Dexter Ave N, entrance around back, call for directions if confused 206-263-8200.
Grammy Camp
The local chapter of the Recording Academy (that brings us the Grammys every year) is running a day-long workshop Friday 6 April on the music industry, with hands-on sessions by performers, producers, engineers and other music professionals. If you're heading in that direction after high school, or just curious about what it entails, check their website for an application, or contact Caroline Dodge at 206-834-100, caroline.dodge@grammy.com for more details. Applications are due 27 February, so you could work on it over the break.

Do you have an idea for a BLAST article?
We want to know what you know, and we want to know what you need. Send us your specific content, or your ideas for content. If you have Blast content to get out this week - please submit it by Friday at 3 pm. The Blast goes out late Sunday night, and covers school life for the following week.
Things we like to know:
- School News, in and out of the building
- Opportunities for Center School students (volunteering, classes, performances, etc)
- Student, staff and faculty accomplishments beyond the school.
- And the ever-favorite "misc."
By now you've seen the motley collection of stuff that qualifies for the Blast -- if you've got something that fits that very elastic category, send it in. Make sure you tell me what's going on, where and when it's happening, and how to get in touch with the people involved, if participation is the goal. And let me know how long you think it should run.
To submit news, events, or calendar items to be included in the Blast, send an email with subject line "News" to submitarticle@csca.thecenterschool.net.
