Commercial photography, concept to finished product

This is a workshop designed to illustrate the process of creating images for advertising and gain an understanding of commercial photography in today’s market. With discussions and projects guided by the instructor, the students will participate in a mock assignment to conceptualize, designs, and create images for the production of an ad, poster or brochure promoting The Center School.

The workshop will be held and the Conrad & Company Studio, a couple blocks from Seattle Center.  There students will gather to brainstorm concepts, set up both a still life set and a live action set to produce images and then bring it all together for a final product. This workshop is intended to give the participants a glimpse into the world of production deadlines, tight budges and demanding clients… in other words, the real world of commercial photography and graphic design.

No camera equipment will be necessary although students will be asked to bring props/costumes representative of the TCS educational experience.

Specializing in photographing food, Christopher Conrad has been creating images as commercial photographer for over 33 years. His studio, which he designed and built in an older warehouse over 20 years ago, is located in ‘uptown’ Queen Anne. With over 6,600sf, the facility features a large open shooting floor, kitchen, model’s dressing room, prop rooms, multiple offices, client lounge and more. There, Christopher has created and continues to create delectable and award-winning images for advertising, packaging, cookbooks, as well as a baker's dozen of other uses needing commercial art.
