The Arts Are Basic to a Basic Education
BLAST News Content - Community Announcements

As an Arts Inclusion School, the Center School is leading the way in curriculum development, using the arts as a component of basic education while learning about the arts as a distinct and valuable element of a 'well-rounded life.' Come hear the officials talk about what we already know at a forum on arts education with Mayor Mike McGinn, Interim Superintendent Susan Enfield and a quorum of students, educators and policy people. This is a chance to speak your mind about an issue that is central to learning at the Center School, and to learn more about the district's comprehensive K-12 Visual and Performing Arts Plan. The event, on Thursday 16 February, 6:30-8:30, at Seattle University, Pigott Auditorium.

For more information on the partnership between the city and the school district, look http://www.seattle.gov/arts/education/partnership.asp -- for details on the forum, look http://www.seattle.gov/arts/education/forum.asp.

The Center School's Ad Hoc Opera Group will not be making a formal appearance at the dress rehearsal for the upcoming production of Orpheus and Euridice, since it's in the middle of Midwinter Break, but wanted to remind us all that a Teen Tix pass will get a student into a performance for only $5. And on Sundays, they can take a parent along for another $5 -- students, think of the leverage that kind of access might bring.
