Parent Volunteer Hours – Reminder! PARENT VOLUNTEERS AT TCS= 1174 HOURS SO FAR for 2009/2010 Thanks to all the parents that helped out during the Ski Bus this winter, we logged in an extra 166 hours this week. Don't forget to advise TCS volunteer hours monitor Nancy Hom at skallywag@comcast.net of your hours. She will record your time. She also has forms she can send you to fill out electronically and email back, or you can print, handwrite your hours and turn in at school. Libby and Kathy have a clipboard in the CSCA mailbox with a volunteer hours log to enter hours manually.
TCS STUDENTS MAKING NEWS Amorette M & Ankober Y Exhibit Black & White Photography Youth in Focus congratulates TSC students Amorette M. and Ankober Y. for their hard work in our Winter Quarter of Black & White Film Photography classes. Both students were a fabulous addition to the YIF community, and presented great work at our exhibition opening on Thursday 3/11. The exhibition will be hanging at the Youth in Focus office gallery until May 20. Stop by to see their work: Youth in Focus is located at 2100 24th Ave. S., Suite 310, Seattle, WA 98144. Ivy Removal Saturday, March 20 - 9:30am to 2:30pm Landsburg Park-Municipal Watershed Come join us for a day at the source of drinking water for nearly one million people in King County! Removing aggressive invasive plants like ivy and restoring native plants along the river bank are high priorities in restoring habitat and species diversity. A mini tour of the Landsburg diversion dam and fish passage facility will be included during the lunch break. This event is reserved for volunteers aged 15 and up. Space is limited, so please sign up in advance by emailing, nisa@cedarriver.org.
Native Tree Planting Saturday, March 27 - 10am to 2pm Dorre Don Natural Area-Maple Valley Join us for one of our last planting projects of the season! Get your hands dirty and come plant a tree right along the Cedar River. This is a great example of the collaborative effort between King County, private land owners, and Friends. Irrigation Project Saturday, April 3 - 10am to 1pm Maple Valley Return to a site where native trees and shrubs were planted over the fall and winter months. With spring just around the corner, native trees will need to be irrigated for their first few growing seasons. We will be setting up irrigation lines throughout the project site. Invasive Removal Saturday, April 17 - 10am to 2pm Cavanaugh Pond-Maple Valley This beautiful 44-acre Natural Area is a great location to spot a wide diversity of birds and wildlife; including spawning sockeye salmon. Come join our efforts in removing invasive species, which is a necessary task in restoring this critical habitat. Please sign up in advance by emailing nisa@cedarriver.org.
Invasive Removal and Planting in the Municipal Watershed Saturday, April 17 - 9am to 2:30pm Rattlesnake Lake-Cedar River Education Center Come celebrate the Earth by participating in this unique event. We will being removing invasive species and planting natives near the Cedar River Watershed Education Center and Rattlesnake Lake. A mini tour will be provided of the Center's sustainable building features, along with the history of Rattlesnake Lake. This event is reserved for volunteers aged 15 and up. This is a unique opportunity with limited space, so please sign up in advance by emailing nisa@cedarriver.org.

Come Party at the McClure Mixer Saturday, April 17, from 7:00 to 10:00 Queen Anne Community Center The McClure PTSA is hosting a community dance party (adults only). We are inviting the entire community to come have a good time while supporting our neighborhood middle school. The evening will include tasty snacks, a no-host bar, and a great DJ. Come for the dancing, the schmoozing, or both! There will be a no-pressure silent auction, but the emphasis is on community and fun.
