This Week at the Center School Special Schedule 10/4, Monday - blocks: 1-3-5 10/5, Tuesday - blocks: 2-4-6 10/6, Wednesday - blocks: 2-4-6 10/7, Thursday - blocks: 1-3-5 10/8, Friday: District Wide Staff Professional Development, no school for students.
Rescheduled Retakes Picture Retake day has been rescheduled for Monday, October 4th. On Monday, you will need to bring your Student Portrait Form with you. (even if you do not want to purchase student pictures, you need to fill out the form so that your photo can be used in the yearbook and on your student ID)

MAP Testing, Continued from Geraldine Carroll Your student should have brought home a letter from the school on Monday regarding the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test. All 9th graders will sit for the MAP test in the next few weeks. Testing will begin at 8:00 AM on the assigned dates. Please note the early start—8:00 AM allows for an adequate period to complete the test and also allows us to start classes at our regular 9:25 time. Please be sure your student is at school in time for testing. We are grouping students by Humanities teacher. Please note when your student will be testing: All of Ms. Pritchard’s Humanities and Language Arts 9th graders: Tuesday, 10/5 Ms. Storey’s Humanities classes only: Wednesday, 10/6 and Thursday, 10/7
PSAT Testing This year the PSAT will be given at The Center School in Conference Rooms A & B on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. Please have your student here by 8:15 a.m. There is no cost to students. The Seattle School District will cover the cost.
Center School College Information -- All Grades Welcome from Barbara Quintana College Representatives Are Coming to The Center School to Meet With You! All College Rep meetings will be at lunchtime on the balcony, and all grades are welcome to meet with reps. Oct. 14th -- Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Oct. 19th -- Portland State University And Oct. 26th, the National College Fair for Performing and Visual Arts Colleges takes place at the Fisher Pavilion, 7pm to 9:00 pm. This fair is a “must” for students intending to study the arts! Find out about college offerings, size, location, admissions, scholarships and grants, dorms, athletics, campus life. This is a perfect time to learn more so that you can compare make good choices. See Ms. Quintana in your College/Career Center Office on Thursdays for further information and help with your post high school plans. Healthy Youth Survey 10th and 12th grade students at the Center School will take the Healthy Youth Survey on October 20, 2010. The survey will take place in their Humanities class. Calculators Wanted – Chemistry from Mrs. Zupke We need a class set of calculators for Chemistry ASAP. If you can buy one, awesome! If you can buy a few, even better. Specifically, I am looking for any combination of the following models (range from $10-$20 each and available at office supply stores): Texas Instruments TI-30XA, TI-30XS, TI-30 IIS, Casio FX-260, or Casio FX-300MS Plus. Costa Rica; Tropical Adventure in Education from Jose Murphy Come join a group of Center School students on a ten day adventure to Costa Rica during Spring Break. We will travel to a small rural community in the mountains; staying at Rancho Mastatal: an environmental learning center adjacent to one of Costa Rica’s most stunning national parks; La Cangreja. Trip includes home stays, working on community projects, visiting a local school and a side trip to Playa Palo Seco: a beautiful island along the Pacific coast to learn about coastal ecology and participate in restoration projects. Approximate cost of trip (airfare, food, lodging, educational material, local transportation and excursions) $2200.oo. Fund raising opportunities available. Record Parent Volunteer Hours – Reminder! If you volunteered to help, don't forget to advise TCS volunteer hours monitor, Nancy Hom at skallywag@comcast.net of your hours. She will record your time for our school. She also has forms she can send you to fill out electronically and email back, or you can print, handwrite your hours and turn in at school. Libby and Kathy have a clipboard in the CSCA mailbox with a volunteer hours log to enter in manually.
