31 January - 4 February 2011 The new semester – it’s like the reset button on a video game. And in honor of the new semester, Wednesday is a two-hour early dismissal day, so check the schedule below. And if you have a student who is contemplating the SAT, the Seattle Public Library practice test could be a great diagnostic – spaces are limited, see below and so scamper off to register.

This Week at the Center School
Wednesday is a two-hour early dismissal (Teacher Development), and so the standard 1-6 schedule is condensed. Period 1 8:15 - 8:55 am Period 2 9:00- 9:40 am Period 3 9:45 - 10:25 am Lunch 10:25 - 10:55 am Period 4 11:00 - 11:40 am Period 5 11:45 - 12:25 pm Period 6 12:30 - 1:40 pm Center News CBC Meeting on Wednesday, February 2nd at 7:00 pm from Julie Vergeront Join us for a Community Building Community Meeting on Wednesday, February 2nd at 7:00 pm at Uptown Espresso on 4th and Wall. A Night at the Theater for Center School from Julie Vergeront * See Book-It's "Great Expectations." No term paper required! Buy your tickets now for Center School's annual Night at the Theatre featuring Book-It's "Great Expectations" on Wednesday, February 9th. There is a reception at 6:00 PM, followed by a pre-show talk by Book-It at 6:30 PM and then the play at 7:30 PM.Reception and play: $20 adults/ $15 students/$15 each for TCS staff and 1 guest. Order tickets on line at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/143342 or get an order form at the TCS front desk. * Help still needed for Night at the Theatre. o We can still use some volunteers to help with clean up after the show. It should take just 1/2 hour. o We can still use donations of nice hearty appetizers or desserts (finger food only) for the reception. Food must be completely prepared and assembled and delivered to the lobby of the Centre House Theatre by 5:45 pm. Make something or order a platter from Cochon Catering. Details for catering option are below. * Cochon Catering is offering platters for your donation to Night at the Theatre. Each platter is $20 for 20 pieces and will be delivered to the theatre in time for the reception. All you have to do is email Chef Patick Frank and place an order (and pay, of course). Beyond the Center School
It’s Futbol, Not Football Center School students 14 and under are welcome to attend the Ballard High School Mid-Winter Break Soccer Camp. Sessions meet February 21-23, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Ballard High School soccer field. Each player will work with the Ballard High School coaching staff and varsity players. Instruction will be on technique in attacking, defending and goalkeeping skills, with mini games to conclude each session. Players will be put into teams and coached in their positions the way Ballard High School conducts their team strategy. Students must register before February 17. Race to Nowhere The Bryant Elementary PTSA & Assumption-St. Bridget School sponsor a showing of “Race to Nowhere,” Vicki Abeles’ film examining “ the high-stakes, high-pressure culture that has invaded our schools and our children's lives.” The film shows at Roosevelt High School 31 January, 7 pm – tickets are available at http://www.racetonowhere.com/screenings/roosevelt-high-school or at the door ($10 online, $15 door) After High School Practice for the SAT Seattle Public Library is sponsoring a free practice round of the infamous SAT. The test will be given February 5th from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a follow up (with scores and helpful tips) on February 19th. Space is limited, so sign up quickly.

Last, But Not Least Jazz on First Thursday Alongside all the galleries in Pioneer Square running open houses on First Thursday this month, the Klondike Gold Rush Museum is presenting jazz vocalist Grace Holden (daughter of Oscar Holden) to celebrate the opening of their “Jazz Returns to Jackson Street” exhibit. The museum (which is actually a National Park) is a great little introduction to the history of Seattle, particularly during the Gold Rush, and is free to the public.
