CSCA 2010-2011 - BLAST | The Center School Newsletter 2010-2011

9 March 2011

Yes, it’s the weekly request for Blast content, but just like the little bugs promise at the bottom of the television screen when you’re watching Nova, there’s “more.”  Next week is the HSPE (High School Proficiency Exam, for those who don’t like acronyms),  QSR presentations and Senior Book Chats -- it’s a festival of showing what you know, and our students need a little assistance to come off at their best.  So if you’ve got some snacks you can donate, or some time you can spare -- check out the requests below.  And after that, a special treat...

Comments, questions, etc?  Just ask…

An Army Crawls on its Stomach

And a high school student needs snacks to face an exam.  If you’ve got “a little something” that you can donate for students taking the HSPE next week, send it to school with your child and have them leave it at the front desk.  Here are some suggestions:

Fruit (apples/bananas/oranges/grapes0

Bagels and cream cheese

Cheese sticks

Trailmix

Pita chips and hummus

Water

Juice

And here is the schedule for the exam.  HSPE schedule

Better Than Oprah

from Rick Monroe

“I need volunteers to listen to book chats with a humanities teacher, providing  the senior an audience. The humanities teacher will assist with scoring the book chat and parents needn’t have read the book.”

Tuesday, March 15th, 8:30-11:00  (3 people who can cover these times)

Wednesday, March 16th, 8:30-11:00 (3 people who can cover these times)

Thursday, March 17th, 8:30-11 (2 people who can cover these times)

If you have the time to participate, contact Mr Monroe at rjmonroe@seattleschools.org

Personal testimonial -- I did this last year, and had a blast.  If your student is rising to their senior year, this is a great preview!

Goodnight Moon, A Variation

Works best if you’ve read Frank Herbert, but a giggle no matter what.

Do you have an idea for a BLAST article?

We want to know what you know, and we want to know what you need.  Send us your specific content, or your ideas for content.  If you have Blast content to get out this week - please submit it by Friday at 3 pm.

Where? - important!  even if at school, say so!

Also, let me know how long the item should run - 1 week?  monthly?
