UPCOMING Workshop Day – Community Service Wednesday, December 16 Center School students will spend the morning doing some sort of volunteering. We are currently gathering information on opportunities in the community. Right now we have three confirmed opportunities for small groups of students, and one for between 10 and 100. There are a number of things we would love parent help with: 1. Contacts – people currently involved with organizations that could use a group of Center School Students on 12/16 2. Contactors - parents interested in making emails and phone calls to find/connect organizations for 12/16. Some teachers and students are/will be doing some of this as well. 3. Day of help - parents interested in helping out on workshop day, accompanying students to workshops, etc. 4. Coordination - a person who would like help plan/ coordinate the event.

CSCA Ski & Snowboard Bus Registration Deadline: Friday, December 18, 5:00 pm What: Bus transportation and lift tickets for skiers and boarders at Snoqualmie Pass. If a student has a season pass, a bus only option is be available. Lessons are available through Summit at Snoqualmie at www.summit-at-snoqualmie.com
Special All Day Trip to Crystal Mountain is planned for January 29th (No School for Seattle Public Schools) This trip requires at least 30 student sign ups.
Where: The bus will depart at 2:30 on Wednesday afternoon for Snoqualmie Central, returning around 9:30. Departure and pickup are west of the Seattle Center at Thomas and John near the Children’s Theater
When: January 6 January 13 January 20 February 3 February 3 February 10 February 24 There will not be a ski bus the last week of the semester or during Mid-Winter Break.
Costs: Six week Snoqualmie bus and lift ticket $360.00 Six week Snoqualmie bus only $180.00
Crystal Mountain, Friday January 29th Crystal Mountain bus and lift ticket $ 100.00 Crystal Mountain bus only $ 50.00
The Registration form is attached to the BLAST or you can pick it up at School Registration should be returned to the Ski Bus box near the Office. Registration deadline is 5:00 p.m., Friday, December 18th.

Center School Policy for Students to Participate in Ski Bus 1. Students must have a 2.0 GPA to sign up for ski bus. 4. Students must attend all classes the day of ski bus to go. That means they cannot be more than 10 minutes tardy as well. 5. Student may not attend ski bus if they have been suspended.
NEWS FROM THE SCHOOL TCS Students to Visit Guatemala with Global Visionaries Congratulations to the following students who have been accepted to the Global Visionaries Program in Guatemala:
Gemma O’Neil, Melodie Paubert, Dustin Williams, Fergus Farley, Raven Dean , and Ronnie Coulter.
Global Visionaries is a Seattle based organization that brings high-school students to Guatemala to work on coffee plantations, hospitals, and reforestation projects. Global Visionaries is founded on the principals of social justice and global awareness
VOLUNTEER AT TCS Parent Volunteer Hours – Reminder! Don't forget to advise TCS volunteer hours monitor, Nancy Hom at skallywag@comcast.net your hours for last week. She will record your time for our school. She also has forms she can send you to fill out electronically and email back, or you can print, handwrite your hours and turn in at school. Libby and Kathy will also keep a clipboard at the front desk with a volunteer hours log.
Sophomore and Junior Parents Please Pay it Forward! We have had no response to the call for a senior event coordinator volunteer. Most of us want to make senior year and the events surrounding high school graduation a special time for our children. The best way for junior and sophomore parents to learn more about The Center School's senior traditions is to GET INVOLVED THIS YEAR, BEFORE YOUR CHILDREN ARE SENIORS.
Learn working alongside me, as I did last year alongside the senior parent coordinator before me. Because once my son graduates, I will no longer be at TCS, and unfortunately my knowledge of senior events leaves also.

DISTRICT NEWS Board approves student assignment plan boundary maps On November 18, the School Board voted unanimously to approve the New Student Assignment Plan boundary maps. The New Student Assignment Plan and recently approved boundary maps will be phased in beginning in the 2010-11 school year for students at entry-grade levels — usually kindergarten, 6th, and 9th grades. Amendments to the maps approved by the School Board resulted in boundary revisions for the McDonald, Whittier, Loyal Heights, Alki and Lafayette areas. Updated boundary maps will be available on the New Student Assignment Plan Web page the week of November 23. COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS Survey re: Old Hay School As you are probably aware, the District plans to reopen the Old Hay school in the fall of 2010 as a way to alleviate the overcrowding in the Queen Anne and Magnolia. The district has proposed making this an option school (an All City Draw), with a Montessori or International curriculum. However, they have not made a final decision.
This is your chance to voice your opinion! A Magnolia parent has volunteered her time and created a short survey to assess the level of community interest in various program options. This is not a SSIA initiative, but I am helping to distribute it to make sure as many families as possible have a chance to weigh in.

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS Youth in Focus Photography Classes Application Deadline: December 4 Youth in Focus is currently interviewing students for placement in the Winter Quarter of FREE afterschool photography classes. Winter Quarter runs from Jan-March 2010; Application Deadline is Dec. 4. Students who get accepted to the program will deepen their photography skills — either darkroom or digital — by learning from professional photographers and mentors in small class classes of 8-10 students.
