CSCA Meeting | 11 October 2011
CSCA 2011-2012 - CSCA Meeting Minutes 2011-2012
CSCA October 11, 2011 (unapproved)

Attending: Sam Star, Marty Hendley, Aimee Bramble, Clay Clayton, Oksana Britsova, Sandi Kurtz, Paola Maranan, Paul Wirsing, Mary Grace Lentz, Liz Wolk, Maureen Kostyack, Paul Dieter, Rebecca Sandinsky, Tom Wolf, Jessica W.

Climate Survey correction – numbers were reversed. Oksana says goals of family engagement still stand. Liz asked if any of the numbers were reliable considering the mistake. Final report has not been distributed to parents.

September Minutes approved.

Family night was a great success- bake sale covered expenses . Used 1 hour of our time in the building. About 100 people came. Paul felt the turnout was low. Do we continue? One time is not enough , so yes.... Low parent turnout can be due to many factors, not just location. Possibly do a small survey to ask what barriers there are to family involvement. Liz suggested dropping pizza party and focusing on Night out at the Rep or something similar in February or Fall. Sandy suggested we need an event first thing in the year to grab the new students and families.. an event where there is talking. Mary Grace suggested that the pizza party was too close to Curriculum night. Consider spacing events better in future.

CBC needs to consider if a theater night should be considered as a community building event, vs. a fundraiser.

Sam: we have enrichment fee, fund drive and warehouse party. Don't want too many fundraising events. Liz: need someone to take lead and then coordinate timing with "Night at The Theatre."  Turn this back to CBC committee. Sandy will put out call for someone willing to spearhead the project. CBC and Fundraising will liase on this.

Oksana: school update.

Center staff is aligning professional dev. Goals with the power 24 goals. Staff breaks into PLC groups by department and evaluates power standards and how they apply to Center standards.

Finalized dates for all community meetings. CSIP continued school improvement plan has been finalized.

CSIP involves more than academics.... Also involves attendance, family involvement.
D and E list provided by district shows large numbers in all grades. Teachers are to clean up list to make sure information is accurate. Then plan will be to get students grades brought up. 46% of students are on this list. Grades will be brought up through mandatory homework club, Saturday class. Will need volunteers for homework club. There are also paid tutor positions for those interested.

Volunteers have to be fingerprinted at $40 each. Will CSCA pay ? Yes. Sandy will run another call in the Blast for volunteers for homework club.

Jessica will follow up with volunteers who have already spoken up re: night out and HH volunteers.

Walkout: Parents can sign kids out for protest if they want to excuse absence. Without parents permission absence is unexcused and work cannot be made up.

Sam asked if there could be a survey to ask students what they think about classes? Yes. It will be worked out this year.

Treasurers Report:

Over 16000 in enrichment fees have been collected, 1500 in PTA fees. We've paid insurance. Mother earth grant check for MUN has been given to Andy Bell. Everyone (staff) has been reimbursed for expenditures.

(Budget goals are ambitious this year. If we don't meet our goals then we'll bail ourselves out.) We are on target for now.

Fundraising:

Need to focus on next few weeks to get the remainder of the enrichment fee collected. Phone calls and stand alone e-mail viaBlast List . Oksana will provide e-mail for all families to Tom who will send e-mail.. Sam volunteers to make phone calls to those who haven't responded starting the last week of October. Jessica will help with calls too.

Annual fund project letter will go out November 1, ideally, to get donations by end of year. Tom will put the link for Network for Good back up on the website. And send links to Liz for the appeal letter.

Directory:

Cindy D. will have a draft ready soon. Someone will need to proof the first draft. Tom volunteers.

Other:

Tom Wolf: will be updating CSCA site to solicit volunteers. Will solicit an events editor for the Blast.
The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be November 8.
